People who are living An Extraordinary Life all have three things in common. Our goal is to help our clients choose a career path that provides their ENGINE, allows them to feel that they are in their ELEMENT most days, and creates sustainable EQUILIBRIUM among their top life priorities.

The First E - ENGINE

Your ENGINE is a source of energy that allows you to wake up most mornings excited about what your day holds in store. It gives you confidence in your abilities, and drives you to constantly challenge yourself and hone your skills. Most importantly, your ENGINE is what makes work not seem like work - a key component of living An Extraordinary Life.

People identify their ENGINE in one of two ways:

  1. Some people find their ENGINE is a particular subject matter about which they are passionate. The more time they spend developing, using, and refining their expertise in that subject matter, the more energized they feel.

  2. Others find that they were born for a certain role or activity and that role is more of a source of energy and fulfillment than any particular industry. A few examples of common roles that are ENGINES for many people are: Manager, Negotiator, Strategist, Visionary, Teacher, Entrepreneur, Executer, Catalyst, and Designer.
Through a series of exercises in the first few coaching sessions, you'll discover or confirm your own ENGINE (or multiple Engines). This will allow you to most effectively gather and weigh your career options throughout the rest of the process.

The Second E - ELEMENT

With any career, there are tasks that come naturally and there are others that sap your energy (you may find yourself dreading them and putting them off). It is not uncommon for people to spend the vast majority of their day doing work that falls into the latter category.

The goal: spend well more than 50% of your day doing work that comes naturally, makes the most of your strengths, and energizes instead of drains you. In short, spend as much of your day as possible in your ELEMENT.

In your first coaching session you'll deepen your understanding of your Personality Type, Temperament, and work style. You'll learn the ten things people of your Personality Type report that contribute most to their job satisfaction. You'll identify your innate strengths as well as the tasks that drain your energy, and you'll begin the process of identifying jobs that would allow you to spend well north of 50% of your day in your ELEMENT.

The Third E - EQUILIBRIUM

It is rare to find someone who is living An Extraordinary Life because it is not everyday you speak with someone who has a found balance or EQUILIBRIUM among their top life priorities. In fact, a lack of EQUILIBRIUM is a growing epidemic due to our increasingly global economy, and an ever-growing technology system that encourages us to be more and more accessible every minute of every day. This accessibility leads to constant distractions from our own life goals and priorities. Instead of spending our time on what is most important to us, many of us spend time on whatever actions are most urgently requested from others around us.

While it is flat out impossible to balance all aspects of your life perfectly every day, we believe that it is possible to achieve a regular state of EQUILIBRIUM among your top three or four life priorities on a weekly basis.

Doing so requires three steps that are woven into the AEL Career Transition Coaching process:
  1. Identify your top life priorities

  2. Strategize specific ways to spend your time each week in alignment with your priorities

  3. Analyze your philosophy of work and make adjustments in what you take on, what you delegate, and what you decide doesn't need to get done at all
Through a series of exercises and discussions, our clients determine and execute a path to EQUILIBRIUM. They are often amazed at how quickly and easily they are able to make seemingly small adjustments that make a significant difference in their quality of life on a daily basis (and most share a regret that they hadn't done it sooner).
